We will be doing power distribution changes after 8pm PST on Saturday May 31, 2008. Changes are being made due to the rapid migration that was done. This change will insure future stability in the future of power distribution as summer arrives around within the coming months. Brown outs, blackouts, etc… occurs within this this season and we are preparing for random reboots and crashes.
We are anticipating a downtime of no longer than 15 minutes as we modify our power distribution. All machines will have a proper shutdown to prevent any file system corruptions.

We recently encountered hard drive problems with one of our main hard drives. To prevent data loss, we had to take our free web hosting server offline. We were able to bring back the server online with the backup drive but the data on that drive was almost 2 months old.
So far, we have restored as much data as possible from the corrupt hard drive. Also, we have finished restoring all the mysql databases and the only thing missing is the content from “public_html” folder for some websites. Therefore, if you still notice any old content on your site and you have a backup of your site, please restore the files from “public_html” folder from your backup file that you downloaded to your computer.
All you have to do is unzip the backup file and look for “public_html” folder. To unzip *.tar files, please use winrar - http://www.rarsoft.com/download.htm
You will find the “public_html” folder under the “homedir” folder. Once you locate the folder, simply upload that folder to your site using ftp. Make sure to upload “public_html” content to “public_html” folder in your ftp only.
If you have any questions about the status of your website, please submit a ticket at http://www.psychz.net/helpdesk/ or email support@psychz.net
When submitting a ticket, please make sure to provide your domain and username.

If you are using wordpress for blog or just as a main script for your website, we recommend that you install these 2 plugins to make sure you are able to stop Spam before it enters the system.
1. Akismet - Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You need a WordPress.com API key to use it. You can review the spam it catches under “Comments.” To show off your Akismet stats just put < ?php akismet_counter(); ?> in your template. See also: WP Stats plugin
2. CAPTCHA-Godfather - This plug-in protects the form for posting comments from spam by 4 ways; CAPTCHA code, Session ID (which is different from PHPSESSID), Timestamp, IP Address. Also allows the webmaster to choose between fonts.
We are currently using both Akismet and CAPTCHA-Godfather on our blog. If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to post them in the comment.

There are many articles on the web that will tell you to stay away from free web hosting companies if you are thinking of starting a business online. Most of these articles are simply written to get people to pay for hosting and give “free web hosting” a bad name. Yes, most free web hosting companies are not able to hire 24/7 dedicated staff and this is where Profuse Host sets itself apart from rest of the free web hosting companies. The reason we are able to offer free web hosting and still offer a dedicated staff is because we are backed by our parent company “Psychz Networks“.
As a company, we have no desire to fill our servers with every sign up we get. Every application that is submitted is screened with detail and only few are approved to limit the amount of abuse on our servers. We have a dedicated staff that is notified right away if the server is under any kind of stress and usually the problem is fixed before the site admin detects anything. Furthermore, we give you 3 option when you are signing up and for a business, we recommend going with “free web hosting with 200 MB” or “post for host” package. With “free web hosting with 200 MB”, you get limited amount of features but you get basic features that are needed to run a basic business website.

We encountered few problems with the hard drive today and we recommend downloading your site backup to your computer. We do have a backup drive in place but we still recommend that all clients download the backup to your computer. The server is working fine now and we will be making proper changes in next few days.
If you encounter any kind of mysql or php related problems, please submit a ticket to our support department.

We recently upgraded our client panel and it seems we can no longer make changes to the packages. For example, clients are no longer allowed to change package from “free web hosting with 200 MB” to “free web hosting with 2 GB” or “post for host”. We don’t know if that feature will be enabled in the future but for now clients don’t have the option to have their packages changed.

Most of you don’t like the system where every post you make is moderated before it shows up on the forum. Therefore, we decided to make few changes.
1. You no longer have to wait for your post to show up in the forum.
2. All new posts are required to have 500 characters. Any less and the forum will not allow your to post.
Some of you might say 500 characters are a lot but it is very easy to post 500 characters if you have a proper answer with enough details. We are hoping that this limit will keep spammers and abusers away.
